Kuala Lumpur’s most prominent tourist attraction is a calcareous hill with three main caves and several lesser caves. This 100-year-old temple, some 11 kilometres north of Kuala Lumpur, has statues and sculptures created inside and around the main caves. The calcareous formation of the Batu Caves is thought to be 400 million years old. Some of the cave entrances were used as shelters by the indigenous Temuan people. When an Indian trader promoted the Batu Caves as a place of devotion, the main cave’s ‘vel’-shaped entrance established a sacred place for Lord Murugan within the caves.

Genting Highlands is well-known for being one of Malaysia’s hill stations, ranking with places like Cameron Highlands. People come here to breathe in the fresh mountain air, but another is to enjoy the attractions, including many casinos and indoor and outdoor theme parks. Another advantage of the Genting Highlands is that, despite the commercialization of the centre, you can quickly go trekking in the surrounding area and even go to adjacent waterfalls and mountains. This makes it popular with nature lovers and city dwellers, which is unusual in Malaysia.
